Try and have a story or theme. If you write the speech in the third person it becomes a speech not a narrative |

Welcome to Market Harborough
& District Speakers Club
Public speaking is one of the most feared tasks that people undertake
and yet it is necessary for most of us at some time in our lives. The
ability to speak confidently and coherently to a group, possibly in a
work environment, social event or in other activities, is both rewarding
and beneficial. As a Speakers Club, we have seen some members gain
promotion through work and others gain prestige and respect through our
club enhancing their individual talents. Having personally been
particularly wary and shy of speaking to numbers of people, the Market
Harborough & District Speakers Club nurtured and encouraged me to throw
the shackles of fear away and now they can’t shut me up!!! Even now, we
all get butterflies in our stomach when we have to stand up and speak
but we will teach you how to control them so that they fly in formation
and act to your advantage.

Some of you may already be
accomplished speakers but there is no doubt that we can still improve
your own efforts through our programme. Our monthly meetings are geared
to assist each person in improving their techniques through practice and
advice in a friendly non-critical manner. Remember we were all novices
at some time. I look forward to your joining us soon.
David Toogood, Club President
2006/7.
