Club History
The
inaugural meeting of the Club was on the 28 January 1988 when 32 people
attended, 12 of which were potential members, the rest supporting
members. The Club got its Charter in 1989 and was set up with the help
of the Oadby Speakers’ Club who offered help and guidance
Original Members still active in Market Harborough Speakers’ Club are:
Dora Mack Member and District President 2006-07
Tony Coleman Member and National President 2006-07
Traditionally the Club still meets on the second Thursday of each month.
The Club met for many years at the Countryman Pub, Great Bowden, until this site was developed for housing. We then move to the local Pub at Sutton Bassett for the next two years until we moved to a more central venue in Market Harborough.
The ASC is made up of Speakers Clubs with a Club President, a Vice President,
Education Director, Secretary, Treasurer and Social Secretary and an elected
Committee.
In the local Area encompassing 3 to 8 Clubs and perhaps covering 2 Counties,
there is an Area President, a Vice President and local Club Presidents who
co-ordinate the Area business.
The District is made up of: District President, Vice President, and Area
Presidents and they provide the link between Areas and the National Executive.
The National Executive co-ordinate the whole of the ASC arena for the United
Kingdom.
